Easy Ranch Dressing

Everyone loves ranch dressing, but how many know how easy it is to make? I believe anything you love or consume frequently you should know how to make from scratch. Who knows when you might have a ranch dressing emergency on your hands!?!

This ranch dressing is very simple and includes my favorite technique of cooking the fresh herbs to decrease the bad bacteria that can lead to rapid food spoilage and poisoning. You can also substitute dried herbs and garlic and skip the sauté and food processor steps to make this dressing even simpler. If you do use dried herbs instead of fresh, be sure to let this dressing chill for a couple of hours before use to allow the herbs to hydrate and properly flavor the dressing. Also feel free to substitute plain yogurt or kefir for the cultured buttermilk and regular mayonnaise for the vegan stuff. And never—and I mean never let an empty bottle cause a ranch dressing crisis in your house ever again!😋

Directions:

  1. Add sliced green onions, dill, garlic and canola oil to a small saucepan and sauté over medium heat for 3 minutes or until onions begin to soften.

  2. Combine sour cream, buttermilk, mayonnaise, dijon mustard, vinegar, sugar, salt, black pepper and cayenne pepper (if using) in food processor. Add sautéed onions and herbs.

  3. Process until combined and no large chunks of onion remain.

  4. Transfer to a storage container and chill before enjoying. Use within 5 days.
